Coordinating Institution

The project is coordinated by Professor Emil Kirchner, who has a well established track record of managing trans-national research projects, has published extensively on regional and global security governance and is the Coordinator of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence at the University of Essex.

Professor Han Dorussen,  Department of Government at the University of Essex, has participated in several comparative research projects, and has published widely in the field of regional and global security. The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Essex, which includes the Department of Government, is one of Europe’s leading centres for theory-driven empirical research in the social sciences and renowned for its scholarly work. 

Participants

Each of the partners brings in a distinctive and valuable perspective from their particular country and discipline:

  • Professor Thomas Christiansen, University of Maastricht, has coordinated a number of collaborative, including a Jean Monnet Multilateral Research project on EU-Asia Relations and a European research consortium funded under the Open Research Area research projects and published widely on EU integration and EU-Asia relations.

  • Professor Xinning Song is Research Director of the Centre for European Studies at Renmin University. He has coordinated several transnational research projects including a Jean Monnet Multilateral Research one. He has published extensively on EU-China relations.

  • Professor Zhimin Chen is Dean of the School of International Relations and Public Affairs at Fudan University. He has been a member of several EU-Asia research projects and has an extensive publication track record on EU-China relations.

  • Professor Sebastian Bersick, Department of Diplomacy at the School of International Relations and Public Affairs at Fudan University, has published widely on Asian regional integration and EU-Asia relations.

  • Professor Paolo Canelas de Castro, Department of Law at Macau University, has been involved in a number of research projects on water policy (both in the EU and China) and has published extensively on this subject as well as on EU integration matters.

  • Professor Reuben Wong is Director of Studies at the College of Alice and Peter Tan at the National University of Singapore. He has published widely on EU foreign policy and European affairs generally.

This group of scholars brings together a wealth of valuable knowledge, and between them also have an extensive network among scholars and stakeholders which will facilitate high-level participation at the events organised in the context of this project, and an effective dissemination of the project deliverables.
